The Princess To Eight Uncles Lilly is a beautiful little girl, terribly misunderstood by her own family.
Since her mother is gone, her presence was considered no more than a liability. Without receiving any affection from her father, grandparents or stepmother, Lilly finds comfort in playing with her toy rabbit and her real parrot.
Unfortunately, no one believes her when she says she didn’t push her stepmother on the stairs and she’s severely punished for something she didn’t do.
What I truly admired about her character was her stubbornness and determination to stick to her truth. She could, at any point, take a fall for what happened and she would have received something to eat, but she remained stoic and kept defending her innocence.
When her uncles saved her, she was reluctant at first to show happiness or be grateful for finding them. Lily was actually afraid that they too would punish her for things she never did or refrain from feeding her.
It took a while before her uncles gained her trust. But once they proved themselves, Lily finally experienced the warmth and affection of a real home.
