The Princess To Eight Uncles novel displays a reality where children can either be considered an asset or a liability. Lilly is seen as the Hatcher family jinx, thus her existence was an inconvenience for them.

Things take a one hundred and eighty degrees turn when the Hatchers discover that Lilly is actually related to the famous wealthy Crawford family, instantly becoming the family’s precious daughter and granddaughter.

Part 1: From A Painful Infancy To A Happy Childhood: The Princess To Eight Uncles Novel

Debbie is a woman who craves wealth. She set her eyes on the rich Stephen Hatcher and the man’s daughter is only an impediment in her life. Debbie always mistreated Lilly when the Hatchers weren’t around and treated the girl nicely whenever her in-laws or Stephen were present.

Upon discovering that the Hatcher family was now going bankrupt, Debbie realized that she had to abandon her husband and seek a wealthy future somewhere else. Her only disturbance now was her pregnancy. How could she get rid of her unwanted baby without Stephen knowing she purposely provoked her abortion?

Soon, Debbie came up with the perfect plan to kill two birds with one stone. She threw herself down the stairs, blaming the three-year old Lilly for her fall.

Everyone believed the lady of the house, instantly abhorring the little girl and locking her in the attic. As expected, Debbie lost her baby, which determined Stephen to take extreme measures regarding his daughter.

After leaving her in the attic without any water or food for an entire day, he dragged her outside in the snow and beat her with the broomstick. Every hit came without mercy and all Lilly could do was hold her toy bunny and plead for mercy.

Once Stephen Hatcher was done, he left the little girl in the snow, telling her she would not receive any food or shelter until she confessed pushing Debbie down the stairs and murdering her baby brother.

Lilly kept telling her side of the truth, but her words only met deaf ears. No one believed her. Laying on the snow and on the brink of death, the girl heard a soft voice urging her to call her uncle Gilbert, as he was the only one who could help her.

Fortunately, her father’s phone dropped when he was beating her, thus she managed to grab it and dial the number that the voice whispered.

Lily knew that, without someone to care for her, she would die just like her mommy did a year ago.

When Gilbert Crawford’s phone started ringing, he was in a family meeting, together with his brothers and father. It had been four years since their sister disappeared and they still hadn’t found her.

They had no trace of her, no idea where she could have gone. Jean was ill, suffering from leukemia and Gilbert was her personal physician. Her sudden disappearance also meant that she stopped taking her medicine, which could mean she could already be dead.

Gilbert answered the phone and put it on speaker. When he heard a little girl’s voice pleading for help and confessing to be the daughter of Jean Crawford, all men got up instantly and drove their car to the Hatcher residence.

Stephen mistakenly believed that the Crawfords came to offer him help with his financial difficulties, as he lately kept trying to contact them, but they only came to retrieve Lilly.

Upon learning that Jean was actually Hugh Crawford’s daughter, Stephen’s attitude towards Lilly changed completely. He wanted to keep her in his home and use her to get money from the Crawfords.

But neither Hugh Crawford, nor his eight sons were willing to give up on the only remnant they had from Jean. Even more, they were adamant in making the entire Hatcher family pay for mistreating the little girl.

Will Stephen manage to hold on to his daughter? Will her eight uncles manage to protect her from her dad and grandparents and also learn the truth about Jean’s death?

Part 2: The Girl Who Wished For Love In The Princess To Eight Uncles

The Princess To Eight Uncles Novel

The Princess To Eight Uncles Lilly is a beautiful little girl, terribly misunderstood by her own family.

Since her mother is gone, her presence was considered no more than a liability. Without receiving any affection from her father, grandparents or stepmother, Lilly finds comfort in playing with her toy rabbit and her real parrot.

Unfortunately, no one believes her when she says she didn’t push her stepmother on the stairs and she’s severely punished for something she didn’t do.

What I truly admired about her character was her stubbornness and determination to stick to her truth. She could, at any point, take a fall for what happened and she would have received something to eat, but she remained stoic and kept defending her innocence.

When her uncles saved her, she was reluctant at first to show happiness or be grateful for finding them. Lily was actually afraid that they too would punish her for things she never did or refrain from feeding her.

It took a while before her uncles gained her trust. But once they proved themselves, Lily finally experienced the warmth and affection of a real home.
