Part 1: The Plot Summary Of The Vampire’s Servant Novel

The Vampire's Servant Novel

The Vampire’s Servant tells stories about a gentle and innocent girl, whose name is Echo Gale. She lives with her mirror-image twin sister, Harmony, who was born three minutes before her. Harmony also has a twin sibling, and his name is Valor.

However, Echo is always the scapegoat in the family. Echo’s parents love Harmony and Valor more than her. At some points in The Vampire’s Servant, Echo’s parents lock her inside their house to do housework. Furthermore, they force her to feed starving vampires.

Echo’s blood type is one of the rarest types in the world: AB-. Her blood type is the least tasty among all human beings. Yet, Echo’s parents don’t care about it, and they keep offering Echo’s blood to vampires. One of the vampires is Paul Springer, the wayward son of Victor Nightshade.

Springer steals significant sums of money from his father to drink Echo’s blood. To make matters worse, he has been missing from Victor’s radar for fifteen years. Victor remembered he had to work hard for 15 years to find his wayward son and capture him alive.

Echo’s blood case brings Victor to her parent’s residence. In The Vampire’s Servant novel, Echo is still doing her housework when Victor comes to visit her. So, her parents were the ones greeting Victor.

Victor’s feelings toward Echo blossom as he stops Echo from feeding him with her blood because he has eaten enough food. Echo also feels compassion from the vampire, who appears protective of her.

So, what are Victor’s strategies to rescue Echo, who was previously The Vampire’s Servant? How can he convince Echo she is more valuable than a servant?

Part 2: The Awesome Characters Of The Vampire’s Servant Novel

Echo Gale

The Vampire's Servant Echo

Possessing an ultra-rare AB- -blood type means Echo’s blood is the least delicious among other human beings. Plus, Echo is unlucky to have parents who never believe in her and insist on thinking she’s an evil being. Echo’s parents have made her The Vampire’s Servant. While Echo is tired of how her parents treat her, she can’t do much because her siblings defend her parents.

Echo’s life as The Vampire’s Servant turns around when she meets Victor Nightshade. At first, Echo thinks Victor will be like any other vampires who feed on her blood when her parents pay them. Yet, Victor turns out to be a protective master, and later, lover.

Harmony and Valor

The Vampire's Servant Harmony and Valor

Harmony and Valor are twin siblings, while Harmony is the mirror twin to Echo. Both of them were born three minutes after Echo. Unlike Echo, they receive decent treatment from their parents. Yet, they live peacefully with Echo and do not bully her or set things up for her.

In The Vampire’s Servant, Harmony even defends Echo by demanding her father to have Echo go with her to watch movies. However, Echo’s father has more power and influence than all of his children. Even Harmony’s twin brother, Valor (or “Val”, as other family members refer to him), doesn’t even bother to protect Echo.

Victor Nightshade and Paul Springer

The Vampire's Servant Victor and Paul

Paul is the first vampire to appear in Chapter 1 of The Vampire’s Servant novel, implying he’s one of the earliest vampires to feed on Echo’s ultra-rare blood. He is Victor Nightshade’s wayward son. Not only does Paul seldom return to his father’s house, but he also frequently steals money from his father to feed himself human girls’ blood.

Paul’s wayward manners have gotten on Victor’s nerves until the father’s physical punishment feels not enough. So, Victor has to step in by visiting Echo at her parent’s residence and taking her away to his residence when he has received Echo’s parents’ payment. Victor eventually develops protective and romantic feelings towards Echo.

Part 3: Some Reflections On The Vampire’s Servant Novel

The Vampire's Servant Free

Selling a scapegoat daughter to bloodthirsty supernatural beings, a daughter living with her siblings who don’t protect her, and a girl calling her significant other “Master”, are three elements I witness most in The Vampire’s Servant book. Indeed, most chapters have at least one of these three themes as the central focus.

However, the thing that strikes me most upon reading The Vampire’s Servant is the blood type element. AB- is one of the rarest blood types in the world. Yet, the intriguing point I find in this novel doesn’t stop there. The fascination of detailed blood type descriptions in this novel is the first thing I feel when I read this part. Then, when I correlate AB- blood type with the vampires’ favorite blood types, I also find some worthy-to-note points.

The health and wellness world recognizes AB- blood type as the ultimate recipient only if the Rhesus matches. The double characteristics don’t apply to vampires. Yet, Echo’s parents insist on offering her blood to vampires. According to them, it’s because they view Echo’s presence as a burden to the family.

Yet, evil people never prosper. People who choose kindness instead of retaliating, just like Echo’s consistently loving ways to her parents and siblings, will find their way out miraculously. The Vampire’s Servant tells more portions of this take-home message as Victor Nightshade, a vampire, becomes Echo’s savior.

At first, I didn’t expect Echo to live peacefully with her new master. After all, she has endured enough humiliation and abuse from the people who should love her wholeheartedly. Yet, a wonderful thing has happened to her since her first time moving out from her parent’s house with Victor’s help. I feel Victor is a savior, and Echo deserves such a kind-hearted man!
