Best Paranormal Romance Book: Blood Bonds

Blood Bonds, the third sequel of The Bonds That Tie, is no longer focusing on Oli as the main character. Instead, it focuses on the character developments of each of Oli’s bonds. The Resistance has successfully captured Oli alive since the first few chapters of the novel, and now, it’s up to Oli’s bonds to rescue her.

At the same time, we know more characters in Blood Bonds book that form new friendships with Oli in different ways. Ironically, some of those new “friends” are only after Oli’s special something. No wonder that, in this book, Oli frequently complains that she’s overpowered, yet, she doesn’t seem to do anything with her immense superpower.

Oli’s self-questioning is getting more intense in Blood Bonds than in the two previous books. After all, escaping from the Resistance is not an easy-peasy matter. The Resistance’s actions keep on making Oli get stuck in the false beliefs that she won’t be a suitable weapon for the Resistance and that maybe it’s true that, deep down, she’s a monster to be dealt with.

Part 1: The Character Growths Of Blood Bonds

The Guys

Blood Bonds The Guys

While Oli is still the main female character of Blood Bonds, it is the guys that get more of the spotlight. Their love for Oli is getting hotter, and they are willing to exercise all types of efforts to free Oli from the hands of the Resistance that captures her and treats her like a monster.

The guys have more difficult times in their mission of freeing Oli in Blood Bonds novel. After all, the Resistance isn’t the only party that they face. They also face Oli’s fake friends, both directly and indirectly. In the end, it’s still up to Oli to determine which of the guys she would stay close to.

The Resistance

Blood Bonds The Resistance

As the primary villain of The Bonds That Tie series (including the Blood Bonds book), the Resistance is getting more savage and obsessive in their attempts of owning Oli’s body in this book. This time, they tie Oli to a chair and chain her, and treat her as a resident monster while attempting to brainwash her.

The Resistance is almost successful in getting to Oli’s psychological side. Their gaslights have led Oli to believe that she’s an unsuitable weapon and that she may not be a person, but instead, she is a monster to be dealt with. I hope they won’t last long!

Part 2: Story Of Blood Bonds

Blood Bonds Novel

The Resistance capturing Oli alive and chaining her on a chair, addressing her as the resident monster, is one of the opening scenes in Blood Bonds novel. The gaslighting effects start getting real when this scenario pops out of the book.

Oli starts to think that she’s an inadequate weapon (not a human, but a weapon! Note her declining self-confidence from here). Furthermore, she is no longer believing in her humanity. Instead, Oli in Blood Bonds novel believes that, deep down, she may not be a human who deserves love and respect – she is a monster (and therefore, a source of the problem).

Oli’s five bonds still try to rescue her at all costs. On the other hand, Oli also forms new friendships with other characters. Sadly, not all of the new characters in Blood Bonds book are nice, and Oli is sometimes blinded by their fake personas because she believes she’s overpowered and thus, needs to be tamed.

Still, such things don’t stop Oli’s bonds to profess their love for Oli. Soon, Oli’s guy choice will become even more evident. Thus, the question of who will Oli ends up with still remains a question in this third sequel by J Bree.

Part 3: Meet The Author Of Blood Bonds

Blood Bonds by J Bree

Blood Bonds is J Bree’s third book on The Bonds That Tie sequel. In this third book, Bree focuses more specifically on each bond’s character development. For me, it looks like she wants to give Oli some rest after her exposure to the previous two books. At the same time, I get the impression that Bree wants to build more chemistry within her characters in Blood Bonds.

The Blood Bonds novel is your answer to questions about whether blood is truly thicker than water. Like the previous two books, Blood Bonds also contain some elements of violence and sexuality. However, Bree doesn’t emphasize these two elements when we compare them to the blood ties and psychological elements in this novel.

Loyalty is the thing that all characters in Blood Bonds question, particularly Oli and her five bonds. I feel like this book is an eye-opener for both the fictional characters and us, the readers: Sooner or later, we can distinguish friends who always stick to us through thick or thin or the ones who only become fair weather (or worse, become “enemies in a blanket”).

Out of the three books that J Bree has created in The Bonds That Tie sequel, I relate more with this one. My guess is that perhaps, Blood Bonds has more relatable elements, particularly for people who have experienced gaslighting.

Part 4: Alternative To Blood Bonds

Similar to Blood Bonds

Do you feel that you can relate with victims of abuse every time you hear their stories of being gaslighted and experiencing self-sabotaging attempts? Or, have you experienced the same things, and you choose to read something that “gets” to your feelings and inspires you to be kind to fellow human beings?

If so, try reading The Alpha Demon’s Kidnapped Mate on Dreame platform. The title itself contains the word “kidnapped”, which indicates some abusive elements in the story. Also, it is a werewolf romance story and it involves a devilish male character, which makes it a decent alternative to Blood Bonds.

Summary of The Alpha Demon’s Kidnapped Mate:

Isabella is a she-wolf from the small-scaled but well-respected Golden Moon pack. Her pack life has always been alright until a Rogue Alpha from another pack invades her pack’s territories and kills her parents, the Beta, and their other best friends.

Being a survivor of the Golden Moon pack and facing the Rogue Alpha are not easy matters for Isabella. After all, she has to endure torture from the heavy silver cuffs that are tied to the metal table. She would never imagine that life takes her to a situation where she is regarded as a pet. Like any other character in other novels, she tries to escape – then, again, it’s not an easy matter.

The Rogue Alpha wants to claim Isabella as his mate. He wants to make use of the power gaps to own Isabella. From here, I see what the Rogue Alpha does as equal to what the Resistance in Blood Bonds does to Oli.
