The Marriage Contract | Book Review

The Marriage Contract is yet another best-selling novel that tells a romance story between MCs from two different mafia backgrounds. Callista “Callie” Sheridan is the daughter of one of the prominent Boston mafia family members, while Teague O’Malley is the eldest son of a powerful Irish Boston mafia family.

Any romantic relationships that happen between two mafia families usually end up in a series of arranged marriage scenes, and Callista and Teague’s in The Marriage Contract is not an exception.

Teague is someone who doesn’t want any more business with other mafia families, including the Sheridan families, and he has gone tired of people referring to him by his family name.

Teague knows the engagement is not going to be an easy encounter for him (and also the daughter of the Sheridan family). Other families in The Marriage Contract novel, such as the Halloran family, would eventually disturb and start wars with either one of the families.

Now that neither party can run away from The Marriage Contract, Teague has to protect Callie, his “angel”, at all costs.

Part 1: Meet The Characters Of The Marriage Contract

Callista “Callie” Sheridan

In The Marriage Contract novel, Callie doesn’t only become the mob princess of one of the most prominent mafia families in Boston. Instead, her family also arranges for her to marry Teague O’Malley, the son of another powerful mafia family in the same city, who is notorious for his reputation for lethal grace, killing intents, and dark secrets.

In my opinion, Callie is yet another nice girl character from a mafia family background. She is obedient to her father because she sees herself as the only heir in her family after the death of her brother.

Teague O’Malley

Teague has always hated his family name; as a result, he doesn’t like it when people refer to him with O’Malley. It is because he doesn’t want anything more to do with the mafia dramas, including The Marriage Contract that the mafia families have been talking about.

In The Marriage Contract novel, Teague eventually changes his perspectives about love when he meets Callie, a mafia daughter whose body is full of bruises from the fights. Starting from here, Teague tries his best to protect Callie, the woman he refers to as an “angel”, at all costs.

Part 2: Story Of The Marriage Contract

The story of The Marriage Contract novel begins by telling us about the primary settings in the novel.

The novel itself has three influential mafia families who control the flows of politics, economies, and other aspects of the world: The Sheridans, the Hallorans, and the O’Malley. These three mafia families work so well together under so many secret codes that only they can understand.

The Sheridan family has Callista “Callie” Sheridan as the daughter. The family has arranged for Callie to marry a guy from the Halloran family to build deeper relationships with the latter. However, the guy dies from war, and Callie is left injured. The injured Callie soon finds herself gets tied into The Marriage Contract with another guy from the O’Malley family.

That other guy for Callie is Teague O’Malley or only “Teague” because he doesn’t want anything more to do with the mafia world, including the responsibilities of dealing with The Marriage Contract. However, such perspectives don’t last long for Teague as soon as he locks sights with the wounded mafia girl, who turns out to be Callie.

As we read through The Marriage Contract novel, we will learn that Teague doesn’t call Callie her first name or the usual nickname. Instead, he continuously refers to her as “angel”, which further emphasizes the Romeo-and-Juliet element of The Marriage Contract novel.

Some readers refer to The Marriage Contract as the Godfather version of the classic romance story of Romeo and Juliet. The wars between mafia gangs are there, yet, the romantic moments are also present throughout the novel.

Part 3: Meet The Author Of The Marriage Contract

Katee Robert doesn’t only become the author of one romance novel. Many written media have recognized her as one of the best-selling authors who specialize in writing various types of romance novels.

When we look at the lists of Katee Robert’s written books in her bibliography, we will realize that this woman is great at creating and re-creating romantic scenes that involve characters from different backgrounds.

The mafia family in The Marriage Contract book is only one of the elements that are present in Katee Robert’s books. In particular, The Marriage Contract consists of vivid descriptions of what the mafia family does and how they view The Marriage Contract between a son from the family and a daughter from another mafia family.

I’ve read some other mafia romance books with Juliet-type female MCs. However, The Marriage Contract is different in that it has just the proper portions of mafia family wars and protecting the ones the MC truly loves. In other words, I see the scenes that involve Teague calling his “angel” several times are not so overbearing when compared with the classical mafia family war scenes.

No wonder various media, such as the New York Times, has referred to Katee Robert as one of the most influential authors. After all, this novel isn’t the only novel that Katee Robert has authored.
