Book Review: Let Me Go, Mr. Hill

Let Me Go Mr. Hill is a romance story about Catherine “Cathy” Jones, a woman who tries to get even with her ex-childhood sweetheart, Ethan Lowe. It is because Ethan cheats with Rebecca Jones, her sister, just because he gives 80% of the company shares to Rebecca.

Catherine bumps into an attractive-looking man whom she believes is Ethan’s uncle while she was in her drunken mode. She rushes this attractive-looking man to marry her and seduces this man all the time, because in her drunken thoughts, becoming Ethan’s aunt will serve her justice.

Later on, in the Let Me Go Mr. Hill chapters, we know that the man is not tied at all to Ethan and the Lowe family. His name is Shaun Hill.

The author of Let Me Go Mr. Hill pictures Catherine’s efforts in getting the attention of Shaun Hill, her husband, so vividly. In addition, we can slowly feel the tensions between Shaun’s disinterested feelings towards Catherine and his acknowledgment of Catherine’s effort throughout the story.

Part 1: Meet The Characters Of Let Me Go, Mr. Hill

Catherine “Cathy” Jones

Catherine Jones (or “Cathy”, as Rebecca refers to her), is the main female character of Let Me Go, Mr. Hill. She is one of the most people-pleasing characters in the Let Me Go Mr. Hill novel.

She changes her appearance, tidies up the house, and follows the orders of Shaun Hill, her unloving husband, obediently, including the orders to entertain his cat. She stops at nothing even if her husband rejects her many times. Too bad, people don’t always appreciate her generosity.

Shaun Hill

Shaun is your typical icy-cold main male cast. He knows he’s handsome, has a decent job, and many attractive-looking girls are after him. So, he puts on a cold and distant persona.

At first, he thinks Catherine is just like everybody else: A noisy girl who wants nothing but his attention. As the story of Let Me Go Mr. Hill unfolds, he slowly opens up his caring side.

I would say that Shaun is an emotionally-reserved man. So, this part is why he looks so cool.

Rebecca Jones

Rebecca Jones is the sister of Catherine in the Let Me Go Mr. Hill book. She has stolen many things and people from Cathy (her nickname for Catherine). First, she steals Cathy’s boyfriend, Ethan. Second, she is the person causing Cathy to lose her job.

I would say that Rebecca is an opportunistic character. She knows to use her situations to her advantage, to a point that Ethan becomes empathetic towards her, and finally, becomes hers. She also learns to steal the sympathy of the Jones family that they choose to defend her over Cathy.

Part 2: Story About Let Me Go, Mr. Hill

The storyline of Let Me Go Mr. Hill starts by introducing us to a young Australian woman named Catherine Jones, who is upset and about to throw fits in front of her family. It’s because Ethan Lowe, her long-time boyfriend, has fallen into the hands of Rebecca Jones, her sister, and her family chooses to defend Rebecca.

She seeks help from her best friend in her desperate moment. They party so hard and get drunk. In her drunken mode, the Australian beauty Catherine finds an attractive man she believes is Ethan’s uncle. In her desperate and delusional thinking states, she thinks of getting even with her ex by becoming Ethan’s aunt.

So, she introduces herself to this attractive man. She pulls out her entire weapons, from her university alma mater, her ways of pleasing her man, and more. The attractive man agrees, and they proceed to move to a new house after they get their marriage certificate.

Soon, Catherine learns the man she marries is Shaun Hill. This Mr. Hill guy in Let Me Go Mr. Hill doesn’t even have any relations with Ethan’s family. What’s more, he consistently admits to Catherine that he doesn’t have any feelings for her. Yet, Catherine still tries her best in pleasing her husband in various ways.

Part 3: The Author Of Let Me Go, Mr. Hill

Shallow South is the pen name of the author of Let Me Go Mr. Hill. I searched the author’s presence on various websites, and it seems that Shallow South’s only novel is Let Me Go Mr. Hill.

So far, Shallow South has written more than 1,000 chapters in around 450 pages of the Let Me Go Mr. Hill book. Considering that this novel is a romance novel and has a people-pleasing main heroine, I predict that Shallow South will continue to write the chapters.

The novel Let Me Go Mr. Hill itself is not a pretty big hit, despite it having appeared on several platforms. However, the reader base is above average, and most readers of this novel hope Catherine and Shaun continue their marriage.

Even though Shallow South has only written one novel, we can see that the author puts lots of effort into showing the readers that the main female character is trying her best to please her husband. More amazingly, Shallow South does it all without too many explicit scenes like what we read in other similar books.

Part 4: Alternative To Let Me Go, Mr. Hill

The Mafia’s Contracted Bride on Dreame is the alternative for you who have read Let Me Go, Mr. Hill. It has a similar marriage dynamic to the Let Me Go Mr. Hill book with a touch of mafia relationships.

Eva Marini, the main female cast of The Mafia’s Contracted Bride, has a similar tendency to Catherine Jones in Let Me Go Mr. Hill in terms of paying attention to her appearance.

She is even smarter because she can strategize with her two female friends and get away from the country with a fake identity while escaping her contract marriage with Marco Dovizioso of the Dovizioso mafia family.

The Mafia’s Contracted Bride’s Summary:

The fifteen-year-old Eva Marini’s family wishes to impress the Dovizioso mafia family so badly that they decide to have a transactional marriage between their daughter with Marco Dovizioso, Enzo Dovizioso’s son.

The Dovizioso family agrees because they sense the Marini family’s need for protection against the Petrucci family, another mafia family that focuses on human trafficking.

Eva has studied hard to be a doctor even before Enzo and Marco barged into her family’s house. However, three years have passed and the whole mafia encounters pressure her to dress up and think more about her fashion styles and make-up choices.

In addition, she learns to use an alternative identity and disguises herself during periods while she was on a holiday to avoid contact with her father’s flying monkey.

Still, the young Eva Marini is no match for the Dovizioso’s ability to read between the lines of people’s emotions. However, she still tries her best in disguising and protects herself. Here, I think she’s similar to Cathy’s Let Me Go Mr. Hill who persists in trying despite knowing her attempts will be fruitless.
